- 1978
- Mattel begins to test a new
system for the video game market. Games are being developed to
have better graphics than the Atari system.
- 1980
- The Intellivision system is
introduced along with 20 games. The new system is an instant
success.
- 1981
- Mattel takes over the video
game wars with record sales. The Intellivision system proves
itself with much better game play than it's
competition.
- 1982 - The
Intellivoice "voice synthesis unit" is released along with new
games. The games claim to fame is the life-like humanoid voice
that is produced from an external unit.
- 1983
- Intellivision II system is
released along with the system changer. The new system is smaller
than the original. Sales are on the decline.
- 1984 - The
video game market crashes. Mattel loses money due to the decline
in sales. They sell to INTV corp.
- 1985
- The INTV system III is
released. The new unit is similar to the original 2609 unit. New
games are being developed.
- 1986
- INTV releases a line of new
games. The games are better than any of the previous games
made for the Intellivision system. But, it may be too little,
too late. The end is near for the Intellivision
system.
- 1990
- INTV files for
bankruptcy protection. It's just a matter of time
now.
- 1991
- INTV closes it's doors. Game
Over!
- 1997 -
Intellivision Inc. is born. These retro gamers keep the
vintage games alive by producing game emulators, websites, &
merchandise for all of the Intellivision's loyal followers.
Intellivision Productions Inc. is owned & operated
by former Mattel programmers.
- 1999
- Psycho Stormtrooper wakes up
from a 2 year drunken binge & draws a sketch of his first
Orphan Overlay. He then passes out for another
week.
- 2003 - Intelligentvision is born. 3 Intellivision
collectors, a few programmers, & 2 hardware
guys pull their efforts to make new games for the
Intellivision enthusiests.
