     Intelli games

Img12.png  There are rare Intellivision games, and there are games that are beyond rare! Intellivision game collectors know that games like Congo Bongo & Spiker super pro volleyball, are extremely rare. You may never get one in a lifetime. Now I consider my Digiplay Intellivision games as extremely rare because of the limited number produced, and the fact that they are so hard to come by, not living in South America. Ever wonder what the collectors of South America consider rare?  It is the "Intelli Game". I recently picked up a few of these carts, which are beyond rare. These game carts are much larger than the regular sized Intellivision shell. They are even bigger than the coleco style game carts.  The story on them is fuzzy at best, but I will try my best to explain from the limited information that I have.

  The Story

The Intelli Games were made by a small company in Rio de Janeiro.  The initals "VLS" are on the back of the game carts, which does not say much of anything else. The games were made to be rented at local video stores all over South America. Whether this idea never realized down there, or the company went out of business, is unclear to me. The company then contacted the video stores to offer the games at low prices. Since the American versions of the games were much more expensive, many were bought by locals in the region. The games originally were made with makeshift overlays, instructions, & a box. The box was more of a sleeve, letting the game cart slide easily in & out. The instructions were made on regular paper in black & white, typed in Brazilian Portuguese.  Some games even came with a makeshift set of paper overlays. The only ones I have found with the games I acquired was for "Utopia".  They look similar to the U.S. versions with subtle differemces including the absence of color. This is all of the information I have regarding these boot-leg games. I do know that they are considered boot-leg games, not official production releases, & are very rare.  I currently have 7 different titles. I am unsure how many more there are.
